Eastern Queens Boxing Club: Bringing the Power of Boxing to NYC Schools
Eastern Queens Boxing Club (EQBC) is on a mission to empower the youth of New York City! Through a groundbreaking partnership with the Department of Education (DOE), EQBC is bringing the unique benefits of boxing directly to school communities.
This innovative program goes beyond the physical. Sure, students will learn valuable boxing skills and improve their fitness, but EQBC’s program is designed to help children realize their full capabilities through the art and life skills of boxing. The program fosters discipline, perseverance, and confidence, all in a safe and supportive environment.
EQBC is more than just a boxing gym club; it’s a club that exudes values that last outside the ring. Contact us today to learn more about how your child can benefit from this exciting program.
Our Mission
To empower young lives through the discipline and artistry of boxing, cultivating character, confidence, and community. By fostering a safe and inclusive boxing environment within NYC DOE schools, we aim to equip students with the tools to succeed both inside and outside the ring.
EQBC’s mission is to instill character, confidence, community and to teach discipline and accountability through the life skill of the art of boxing. Kids learn to not give up while they learn the real process of becoming a champion in the ring and in life.

What Makes Us Different From Other DOE Boxing Programs
At EQBC, we offer a unique pathway to boxing excellence. Unlike traditional after-school programs, we provide students with the opportunity to not only learn the fundamentals of boxing but also to excel in the sport. Our standout program offers dedicated training, mentorship, and a clear path for talented young boxers. We make ourselves available 7 days a week and aim to have complete boxing facilities including heavybags, light bags, and actual boxing rings.
We are committed to supporting our top athletes. Students who demonstrate exceptional skill and dedication have the chance to earn a scholarship to train at our flagship and private locations. We also give attendees their own jerseys and the chance to earn their own equipment. They each have the opportunity to be provided world-class coaching and the chance to compete at a higher level.
Schools participating in the EQBC DOE Boxing Program will get:
- A fully furnished boxing gym with punching bags and an actual boxing ring
- An organized and proven plan to create and support competitive boxers
- coaching staff that is available 7 days a week
- children who exude effort and excel in their training will be awarded free membership to training at our flagship location in queens village
We focus on the process of real boxing and the values that will make boxers that are competitive in their training and in life. Our goal is not to be fun but to create a lasting impact on all children that participate in the program.
How We Got Started
Our school boxing program started in May 2022 at Community Voices, M.S. 356, in Springfield Gardens, NY. The principal of the school, Ryan Branch, reached out to our flagship location to see if Eastern Queens Boxing Club (EQBC) would start a real boxing program at his school. The chief trainer, Allen Alvir, started the process the next week, bringing punching bags and gloves immediately to fill up a vacant room at the school.
After some logistics were handled, EQBC officially started teaching boxing to M.S. 356 students. The program is expected to have a complete facility, including a real competitive boxing ring by Fall 2024. EQBC South is now officially the only DOE boxing club with boxers who are training to compete.
EQBC is a licensed NYC vendor ready to start working with other schools to create a comprhensive boxing program for their students.

Why Boxing is So Good For Children
It's Safer than Most other Sports
Contrary to some beliefs, boxing prioritizes safety with proper equipment and focuses on developing skills before competition, ensuring a responsible learning experience for children.
It’s Practical For Self Denfense
Unlike some traditional martial arts, boxing prioritizes developing genuine competence and fighting abilities over attendance-based rewards.
Confidence With Humility
Through training, young athletes gain a realistic understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, along with valuable life skills like managing fear and social interaction.
Instills a training lifestyle
Unlike some martial arts structures, boxing focuses on dedicated personal practice and real-world self-defense skills, ensuring each student receives the training they need.
